DESCRIPTION: The Big Chill was conceptualized by Ms. Cheese Ledesma in 1994 when she chanced upon a bar selling fresh fruit shakes in Boston. She went back to the Philippines with the idea that if people in a cold city like Boston were lining up to get those fruit shakes, it might just work in a hot country where people will pay just to quench their thirst. She contacted her friend Christine Laman and together they proposed their idea to the management of one of the most renowned malls in the country. After 6 months of product development, research and taste testing, the Ayala Corporation management gave the go signal and THE BIG CHILL opened in December 1994 at the Greenbelt Mall in Manila. From a simple 4 sq. meter dark green cart of fresh fruits, a used blender and a borrowed refrigerator, THE BIG CHILL introduced a whole new concept of fruit shakes.
