DESCRIPTION: The year was 1970. In Olympia, Washington, Chuck Barbo and his founding partner saw a unique business opportunity: provide self storage in mini-warehouses for communities whose residents have too much stuff, and for businesses that need to stow boxes of long forgotten records and documents. Today, Shurgard Storage Centers, Inc., is a New York Stock Exchange listed real estate investment trust (REIT) and is one of the largest operators of storage centers in America. We own and manage more than 600 locations, in 154 cities and in 22 states across the country and in Europe. Currently, Shurgard trades on the NYSE under the symbol "SHU." Shurgard isn't only a great place to store, but a great place to work as well.
