DESCRIPTION: E.C.Pay is in the business of replacing the ubiquitous plastic prepaid phone card with a piece of (secure) paper, delivered electronically on demand over a network of credit card terminals. Because of savings in production and distribution, this model has been successful in Europe and Australia. It is just beginning in the Philippines, but the opportunity is promising. 90% of the fast growing cellular phone market is prepaid, and total prepaid volume last year exceeded P30 Bn. The telecom companies¿ goal is that 30% of prepaid ¿cards¿ be sold electronically for 2002 ¿ creating a P10 Bn niche for ECPay and its competitors. We are pursuing this opportunity by focusing our efforts on retail chains with significant prepaid volume. For example, we will be in 162 7-Eleven stores by March 2002. We intend to expand on the opportunity by leveraging our prepaid network to include other types of payments. | |
