DESCRIPTION: In 1959, a young man named Norbert Olberz heard about a little sporting goods store for sale. The store was located in a town called La Canada, just north of Los Angeles, CA. Norbert and his new wife, Irene, plunked down $4,000 and set up shop. Norbert knew that folks had a lot of questions they needed answered. He knew that people wanted top quality equipment to enhance their game. He knew that they required a friendly place to bring their equipment to be sized and repaired. Most of all, he knew that they wanted a friendly and extremely knowledgeable person to help them with this. Customers got the first taste of Norbert's commitment to them when the Olympics came to Squaw Valley the next year. People showed up at his store looking for ski rentals.
