DESCRIPTION: In September 1988, a new company was breaking into the medical staffing industry. A nationwide nursing shortage propelled staffing pioneers Stephen Bisciotti and Jim Davis (Maxim's owners) to establish Medcall Medical Staffing. The company was incorporated to provide hospitals and nursing homes with qualified medical personnel. In 1992, two monumental events took place. First, Medcall acquired NSI Services, Inc. a California-based home healthcare company. The purchase expanded the coverage area to the western region of the United States and for the first time, Medcall was able to provide Medicare services to patients. The second event was the renaming of the company. There was already a local firm in California called Medcall, who singularly owned the rights to the name, so "Maxim Healthcare Services" was established as the official company title. With a new name, new responsibilities and new attitude, Maxim was on an upward rise to the top of the staffing industry ladder. | |
