Mackinac State Historic Parks, Mackinaw City, Michigan
Updated: 02/2004 | |
DESCRIPTION: Mackinac State Historic Parks is a non-profit State of Michigan museum/park facility located in northern Michigan offering visitors the opportunity to see how people lived in the 1790's at Colonial Michilimackinac (a reconstructed fort) and Historic Mill Creek (reconstructed sawmill) and the 1880's at Fort Mackinac (a restored fort). We are located at the Straits of Mackinac, which is the junction of two Great Lakes - Lake's Huron and Michigan. Mackinac State Historic Parks was America's second national park (after Yellowstone) and was returned to Michigan in 1895 as Michigan's first state park. Visitors to our sites may enjoy our forts which are staffed with historic interpreters during our summer season. Our forts contain reconstructed buildings, restored buildings, and exhibits. Mackinac Island offers miles of walking and biking paths, natural wonders (famous Arch Rock, Sugarloaf, Skull's Cave and more)and a beautiful view of the surrounding lakes.
