DESCRIPTION: RAW Art Works uses the power of the arts to nurture change in youth at risk. Whether it be painting, drawing, filmmaking, sculpture, collage or printmaking, young people are encouraged and empowered to express their feelings, ideas and emotions. Art gives them a way to represent "what's really going on" in their lives. RAW provides a safe, positively-energized space where everyone is valued and welcomed into the studio by a sign that sums up our whole philosophy: "No mistakes. Just art." For the past 15 years, our staff of arts therapists has taken art into the streets, public housing, youth incarceration facilities, clinics, soup kitchens, schools and homes, as well as offering programming in our studio in downtown Lynn. RAW provides innovative ways for young people to engage in art-making that can and will transform their lives. | |
