Continental Divide Trail Alliance, Pine, Colorado
Updated: 03/2002 | |
DESCRIPTION: The CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TRAIL ALLIANCE (CDTA)is a nonprofit organization formed in 1995 to work with the federal land management agencies in the completion, management and protection of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT). When completed, the CDT will travel 3,100 miles from Canada to Mexico through Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. In 1999, the CDTA initiated and coordinated the development of the CDT Ten-Year Strategic Plan. This was the first time the federal land management agencies had identified the full scope of work necessary to complete the Trail across their jurisdictions. Based on the Ten-Year Strategic Plan we have determined CDT needs 1,200 miles of new trail construction, 800 miles of reconstruction or major repair to existing trail due to very poor conditions, over 100 miles of rights-of-ways or easements through nonfederal lands, and 1,500 miles of planning, design, survey or land acquisition work before construction can begin.
