DESCRIPTION: The National Runaway Switchboard provides 24 hour crisis intervention, information and referral to at-risk youth, their families and others. Services are provided free and confidential through a telephone hotline and via the Internet that includes an interactive chat room. The agency promotes positive youth development, is solution focused and helps youth and adults indentify their own strengths to help them resolve problems. The agency is non-sectarian and has been the federally designated National Communication System for runaway and homeless youth since 1974. Services are provided with the support of over 100 specially trained volunteers. | |
