DESCRIPTION: The Laboratory for Physical Sciences was established in 1956 as a Federally funded research partnership between the Department of Defense and the University of Maryland. Last year, over 35 published research papers were authored or co-authored by Ph.D and post-doc scientists and top-notch University of Maryland graduate students conducting research at LPS. The research facilities at the Laboratory for Physical Sciences include a 2000-square-foot class 10 cleanroom equipped with four state-of-the-art MBE machines--three for III-V compound semiconductor epitaxy and one for silicon and germanium epitaxy. The cleanroom is also equipped with a state-of-the-art, compound semiconductor device processing laboratory. | |
