DESCRIPTION: Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains, Lake Tahoe Community College offers students the opportunity to pursue an Associate in Arts degree, study for university transfer, acquire occupational skills or complete general education requirements. The college was established in 1975 and its new campus on an 164 acre forested site opened in October, 1988. South Lake Tahoe, California is located on the southern shore of Lake Tahoe at an elevation of 6,250 feet and has 30,000 permanent residents. It is an easy 60-mile drive to Reno and Sacramento is a short 100 miles west, with both cities providing the attractions and amenities of major metropolitan areas. The Lake Tahoe area boasts 252 days of sunshine a year, with average winter temperatures of 18 to 36 degrees; summer maximums average a pleasant 78 degrees. Snowfall at lake level averages 125 inches per year, while the higher ski areas normally receive 300 to 500 inches annually. | |
