DESCRIPTION: Founded: The Contra Costa Times began in 1911 as the weekly Courier of Contra Costa, which merged with the Danville Journal in 1918 to become the Contra Costa Courier-Journal. The Courier-Journal went twice-weekly in 1930, and in 1947 was purchased by Times founder Dean S. Lesher. In 1952, Lesher renamed the Courier-Journal The Contra Costa Times. The paper was published three days a week in 1961, five days a week in 1965 and went daily in 1981. In March 1997, the Sunday Times was launched as the regional Sunday Newspaper delivered to all Contra Costa Newspaper subscribers with zoned local news sections for each of the markets. The Sunday Times has a circulation of 197,469 with a market penetration of 47%. | |
