DESCRIPTION: Intramuros, "within the walls" was the site where Spanish adventurers founded the city of Manila. Since 1952, Intramuros has been the setting for the Lyceum of the Philippines. Nearby are leafy parks, centuries-old landmarks, and even cobble-stoned streets from a bygone era. There is a hint of those quieter, more relaxed times. The racket and congestion that come to mind at the mention of Manila is a comfortable distance away. Intramuros is being revived as History Town Philippines, the city's tourist centerpiece. Street fairs, concerts and other cultural events are staged year round here. Lyceum works in close cooperation with the Intramuros Administration. | |
