DESCRIPTION: I work in solidarity with and identify as a member of various communities including: the disabled community, the feminist community, the international community, the LGBT community, and people opposed to corporate control of the planet. I am a graduate student who teaches community service learning at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. I study the intersection of disability rights issues and global justice concerns. I have cerebral palsy, a neurological impairment, which leaves me completely mentally competent with only a physically impairment. This year I am taking my students to Uganda to help build a dormitory at a boarding school for disabled people. Next year I plan to attend several disability rights events and go to China to do research for my dissertation. I also plan to teach community service learning classes, be a mentor, and continue working with home-schooled high school students. | |
