DESCRIPTION: Iluka Resources Limited is a world leader in the titanium minerals industry. Until 28 May, 1999, the company was Westralian Sands Limited, a major mining and minerals processing company which merged with RGC in December 1998. The company's Florida operations have been producing titanium minerals and zircon since 1972. Based at Green Cove Springs, 55 kilometres south of Jacksonville the operations include a dredge mine, a satellite dry mine and associated mineral separation plants. Iluka employs 145 people at Florida - a state famous for wetlands. As a result the company is using its extensive experience in mine site rehabilitation to develop natural wetlands habitat from some former mine sites. Green cove Springs is a humid sub-tropical region. Land in the area is used extensively for plantation timber, particularly pines. | |
